Specsavers’ RNIB partnership

21 february 2018

Press release

Specsavers and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) are working together to transform the nation’s eye health can defend against avoidable sight loss.

Our research shows that nearly half of all sight loss is avoidable, despite this, nearly six million people in the UK currently live with sight-threatening conditions, yet 25% of people are not having an eye examination every two years as recommended by the College of Optometrists.*

The extent of the problem means that early every family in Britain is touched by sight problems in some way. Our partnership with the RNIB includes a significant multi-media investment to help educate people about eye health and to raise awareness of how regular eye examinations can help reduce avoidable sight loss.

The partnership also includes a £100,000 per year pledge by Specsavers’ 800 UK stores to collectively raise essential funds to assist RNIB’s central promise: ‘to be there’ when needed, by training more sight loss advisors, who provide emotional support and advice for anyone affected by sight loss.
